National Migratory Registry (RNM): Registration Guide

⚠️ Attention to Deadlines: Your registration must be completed within 90 days of your arrival in Brazil. Failure to comply with this deadline may result in daily fines and an irregular migration status.

International students coming to UFSC for a graduate exchange program or a full graduate degree program (master’s or doctoral) under a temporary student visa* must apply for a residence permit for study purposes and register with the Federal Police (PF) within 90 days of arrival in Brazil.

Once the residence permit is authorized, the immigrant is officially registered through a process involving civil identification based on biographical and biometric data. As a result, a National Migratory Registry (RNM) number is issued, along with the National Migratory Registry Card (CRNM).

The CRNM validity period depends on the specific type of residence permit granted. If you continue your academic activities at UFSC beyond this period, you must apply for renewal of your National Migratory Registry (RNM) and, subsequently, for the issuance of a new CRNM.

Temporary Visa ⇒ Immigrant Registration ⇒ National  Migratory Registry (RNM) + National Migratory Registration Card (CRNM)

The visa is the document granted by Consular Representations of Brazil abroad that allows the expectation of admission and stay of foreigners in the national territory, provided that the conditions established by law have been met. Click hehe to learn more.
